The Rotary Club of Revelstoke provided funding in 2015 to the Project Peanut butter to feed children in Ghana.
Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) is the leading cause of death for children under five years old worldwide, accounting for nearly half of all deaths in this age group.
Characterized by an extremely low weight for height, visible severe wasting, or the presence of nutritional edema, around 20 million children are affected by SAM. Malnutrition is linked to over 3 million child deaths each year.
Severe acute malnutrition represents a clinical form of hunger and starvation, specifically a deficiency in essential nutrients. Without appropriate intervention, most surviving children face significant long-term health issues, along with diminished mental and physical development.
